Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the main questions that we think a visitor to our club may ask, but if you have any question not listed here please don't hesitate to email secretary@ddbc.info who will gladly respond, and if appropriate feedback for inclusion on this page.
Q: What are the club objectives?
A: The primary objective of the Club is to promote and facilitate Motor Boating on inland waterways, secondary purposes include the provision of facilities for mooring and boat maintenance, along with social activities for members.
Q: What types of membership are there?
A: We have several categories of member, full, associate, junior and honorary.
All members are expected to support the objects and principles of the club.
To ascertain what category of membership suits you best email the Honorary Secretary with an outline of your details and requirements.
Q: How do I apply to be a member?
A: In the first instance email the Honorary Secretary advising what sort of membership you are looking for, and your boat ownership status if you are looking for a mooring.
Q: How many moorings are there?
A: We have 45 permanent moorings for boats up to 40 ft, and limited room for temporary moorers.
Q: What types of boat do you take?
A: We welcome all types of boats and have a number of steel and fibre glass boats as well as wooden and aluminium ones. The only restriction we place is that permanently moored boats cannot be any larger than 40ft long and 7ft wide.
Q:What does it cost to be a member?
A: This information is shared with you during the application for membership process, but types of charges include annual subscription; mooring fees and social event fees. The facilities such as use of workshops, wet dock, slip way and dry dock area are all free to mooring members.
Q: How many members are there?
A: We average between 100 and 120 members at any given time.
Q: Are there any moorings available at the moment?
A: At the moment there are, and we are actively seeking new members that are keen to join a club instead of just a marina and are prepared to put in the time and effort required to get the most of our club.
When we are full, we operate a strict process when offering moorings relating to membership number and ownership of a boat. Those near the top of the list may be accommodated on a roaming basis if enough boats are away. The harbourmaster manages all of this.
Q: Is the site secure?
A: The club owns the site, which is surrounded by hedges and fences with a gated entrance. The site is monitored by CCTV, in particular the entrance gate, storage area, boat moorings and club-house. Visiting boat owners will get access to the site, but not to storage or club-house.
Q: Are dogs allowed?
A: Dogs are welcome, but must be on a lead unless on a boat. Owners are responsible to clean up any mess. Children are also welcome, although leads are not essential, please remember that it is boat moorings with open access to the canal and there are vehicles moving around the site.
Q:How is the club run?
A: We have a committee of 11 members who meet once a month to discuss club matters and they are responsible for the day to day management of the club and to protect the club's interests. We then have a monthly general meeting that all members are expected to attend. We also have an Annual General Meeting where Committee members are elected and the club accounts presented to the members.
Full members have a vote on all matters if a vote is required and associate members have restricted voting rights.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS THAT ARE NOT ANSWERED HERE OR HAVE SUGGESTIONS TO QUESTIONS THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED HERE, PLEASE EMAIL THE HONORARY SECRETARY at secretary@ddbc.info
